Vaginal Relaxation can be caused by many factors. The primary causes are stress and pressure on the muscles that support the vagina. But Vaginal Relaxation can also be caused by things like inactivity and age.

Childbirth

The most common cause of Vaginal Relaxation is childbirth. During childbirth, as the baby passes through the birth canal, the muscles, fascia and ligaments separate and may become weakened. This weakening is the direct cause of Vaginal Relaxation and it gradually worsens over time.

Pressure on the Abdomen

Increased and/or prolonged pressure on the abdomen due to carrying a child, being overweight/obese. Pressure on a muscle causes it to stretch and relax. This dramatically weakens the muscle over time. The abdominal wall and pelvic floor muscles are directly affected in this situation. This is why even women that have had cesarian section births can suffer from Vaginal Relaxation.

Lifestyle

Leading a sedentary lifestyle in which the pelvic floor muscles are rarely activated/used causes them to become weak. This leads to decreased tightness and control of the vagina.

Most of our days are spent sitting down. Whether you are in the car, at work, eating meals, or relaxing at the end of your day – you are most likely sitting. This results in the abdominal wall and pelvic floor muscles being inactive and relaxed.

Aging

As you get older, your body changes in many ways. One of which is a loss in muscle tone and strength. The muscles of the abdominal wall and pelvic floor are affected as well as the rest of the muscles in your body leading to Vaginal Relaxation.
